Welcome back to the John and Delenn web site everyone. It's been quite a while since the site was last online, and I'm hoping to attract a new team of contributors. Any comments most welcome!
You know, I was just watching "Za'Ha'Dum", and found myself wondering - "Is the relationship between John and Delenn, one of equals?" The part where Delenn's watching the recorded message from Sheridan is quite telling. He says "What I want, is to stay alive and to be with you, but you were right earlier when you said this is about more than what I want". The expression on her face seems a bit like that of a proud parent whose child has learned to share the biscuits for the first time. What do other people think?
I don't know, it just seemed to me that she was relieved that her worst fear, that he would want nothing more to do with him, wasn't realised. Whilst losing him at Z'Ha'Dum is terrible, their relationship turning out to have been meaningless would have been worse.
Wow, this place is quieter than the Vorlon homeworld after "Into The Fire". Anyone else lurking here?
Hello for the first time!! Why I took so long to find this site is a long story. Anyway, I think John's message to Delenn was telling her as much as he wanted to come back and be with her, he realizes that the bigger picture is what is important. The bigger picture being destroying Z'Ha'Dum. He realizes he may not live to come home and he wanted Delenn to know he wasn't mad at her and that he loved her. The look on her face is utter relief.
Hi again. I just wanted to let you all know I may not get on this site very often as I have to go to the library in order to use their computers. But I will get on at least once or twice a week. I will also send this site to my son who is also a B5 Fan. Maybe we can get this site more active!!
Hi there! I'm a long-time fan of B5 (as my family will attest), and yes I do love the romance played out by Sheriden and Delenn:)
So here's my question with a prelude. As we all know, Sheriden was married three times and had three wives. While all of them were very different from each other, they are all fairly strong women. One word to characterize them would certainly not be weak! Yet Captain Lockley said the major problem that she and Sheriden had while they were married is that they both wanted to lead at the same time. So what makes this last marriage so special and so lasting?
Here is my analysis for what it's worth.
I'm not sure exactly how long Sheriden had been in Earthforce before the Earth-Minbari War, but clearly it had been for some time. Just as clearly, his Academy days were also past -- maybe as many as five to ten years. Which means his relationship with Lockley was long since over. Now when the Black Star attacked and Captin Sterns was killed, Sheriden was for the first time in his life completely in command with no immediate back-up -- with a hostile ship still out there. You can see by the look on his face this is a situation he has never been in before if you wathch "In the Beginning". While Sheriden is a natural leader, this event probably drove home to him the responsibility and price of leadership. This obviously didn't stop him from continuing to become a leader, but might have made him a bit more willing to share it. (Obviously, though this is still a work in progress as evidenced by the fact that Delenn has to drag him away from his work in "And the Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place".)
We don't know much about Anna, except that two years after her death Sheriden was still greving for her. However, they both had their careers in completely different fields. The time they would have been able to spend together would have been minimal and absense makes the heart grow fonder. Not that they didn't ever have any disagreements, but they wouldn't have had time to have very many or to step on eachothers toes very often. It probably also helped that their areas of expertiese were in two different areas, unlike with Lockley.
With Delenn, she too comes from a different background and has a different area of expertice. Not that she is silent when it comes to military matters and she thinks she can contribute something! She doesn't take John too seriously (or let him take himself too seriously). Likely due to her upbringing, she knows usually when people need space and is willing to give it to them. Grey Council training likely included lessons in sharing leadership. She is also willing to let people figure things out, after she has given them all the available useful information she has and told her own opinion. Last, Delenn is not afraid to tell her husband when she thinks he is wrong, and as he knows how wise and insightful and expereinced she is (not to mention the respect he obviously has for her) he will at the verly least listen and consider her words carefully. Not that she is always right, but if she feels strongly about something there is a definate reason why and he would be foolish if he were to completely igore those reasons.
Finally, Sheriden himself has chaned, especially since Za'ha'dum. He realizes he can't do everything and he is uncomfortable witht he hero worship that tends to follow him. In my opinion, Za'ha'dum and it's aftermath taught Sheriden a whole new level of meaning in the price of power.

I think Delenn and Sheridan are a PERFECT match... Altohe i DO think Sheridan and Ivanova should Be together!
Actually I think Sheridan and Ivanova would end up killing each other ;) And yes, I'm lurking here from time to time! I visited this page a lot when the show was running, then I kind of forgot about B5, but now I have 3 of the box sets and I've "rediscovered" it.
