Hi,Mark.Interesting comments, again. I hadn't noticed Roy Thinnes' near-fall into the pond, but I did think the tussle was more realistic than the usual devastating punches launching the recipients, jaw-first, into orbit a la every Western saloon brawl scene. I guess it was a case of 'serendipity', which according to an episode of MILLENIUM, is when an accident produces even better results. Or, in the world of THE SIMPSONS, it's known as a 'Homer'! My recall of the episodes must be credited to Chance, one of this sites regular contributors, who sold me tapes of the second season of the episodes our network never sceened when they repeated the series about 1987 or so.It was some of the best money I've ever had the sense to spend. Thanks, Chance! Now that you mention it, Mark, budget does seem to have come into the shows' thinking. I thought INQUISITION was a really good episode but that doomsday device bothered me,too. If its' terrible range encompassed the entire world, why were both its' components in close proximity to each other? Why not station one of them on the other side of the planet. Then again, who am I to try to fathom alien technology? On a different note, I recently read that Quinn Martin planned to make a show starring THE FUGITIVEs' David Janssen and Suzanne Pleshette, but Janssens'untimely death ended the idea. Does anyone have any details or knowledge about it?
Hi, Terry.
I think "Inquisition" is an excellent story, too. The relationship between Joan Seeley and Andrew Hatcher is really interesting, I think - and the latter's attempts to prosecute (or persecute) Vincent and Company genuinely dramatic.
I've always felt, though, that the subplot of the alien threat that underpins the story is very weak.
I know that there are more important things going on in the world to worry about, but I've often wondered whether the concept of the Invaders' final, all-out attack was added at the last minute; perhaps the producers of "The Invaders" had just learned that the series wasn't being renewed for another season, and so they attempted to give the last episode to be aired some sense of closure (although, for me, "The Life Seekers" does precisely that)?
One thing that has always bothered me about the story is the fate of Edgar Scoville.
We see him shot, and he falls...
...and then we never see him again!
The voice over at the end of the story says, "Edgar Scoville will recover from his wounds," but if that's the case, why didn't we see Vincent calling on him at the hospital?
I know that one of the elements which distinguishes "The Invaders" is the fact that it never conformed to the traditional, "and-they-all-lived-happily-ever-after" style of storytelling, and I can't help wondering if Scoville - in the original script - was meant to have been killed.
Then - for whatever reason - the producers changed their minds, and just added the news of his "recovery" to the voice over at the last minute...
All supposition, of course, but, as I've said, it's always bothered me that we never see Edgar after the shooting...
Regards to all,
Mark.
Tonight's Episode...The saucer..I have been wearing out my vhs copy of "Invaders episode 9 , The Saucer ". This one rules ! Vincent captures a space ship with the help of a goofball unpublished writer , played by Dabney Coleman . Charles Drake and Anne Francis appear as a stumblebumbling couple on the lam with some stolen blueprints , who are thrown into the plot unwillingly when a spacecraft piloted by "Them" knocks out thier plane's engines , forcing them to ditch in the desert . Plenty of disintegrating Invader stooges and "heart attack disk" segments keep the proceedings lively as well . A scene with Drake climbing the ladder of the ship and getting a shotgun brandished in his face by Vincent is priceless. If you've never seen this one , check it out !
Anyone notice Peggy Lipton (Mod Squad beauty) in the opening scene of the "Wall of Crystal" episode? Wow, she was a babe!
I have heard several times that the U.S. Air Force was less than pleased about The Invaders T.V. show , and may have actively tried to quash it . This was during the Air Force's most hilarious period of debunking ( You know , " Swamp gas from a weather balloon got trapped in a temperature inversion and refracted a hallucination of the planet Venus ) . Anyway , has anyone else heard this , or is it bullshit?
When BBC2 showed TI in 1984/85 two magazines [Starburst and Starlog] ran articles on it, comparing it unfavourably with Star Trek but is this fair? I think not, and would like to start a debate about the two programmes! As a child of 7 the first episode of ST i saw was where Kirk fights an alien called a Gorn which [even to a 7 year old] was obviously a man in a rubber crocodile suit!!! That formed my attitude to ST - it was a space pantomime totally implausible and with ham acting and gaping holes in the plot, but good fun. By contrast TI had a believable plot,a charismatic hero and every show had at least one brilliant scene. The opening shots of the saucer approaching Earth and landing were awesome;David wore cool clothes that don"t look dated now, whereas the ST crew wore the same clothes for the entire 5 year mission! A feature of ST was the camp humour at the end of the show with Spock being wound up by Kirk, whilst TI had no humour at all,but this was WAR!!! I"d like to know what other Invaders fans think!!
WHERE CAN I FIND THE INVADERS EPISODES?????? I've tried everywhere and I can't find them to buy for my father. NEED HELP
Comparing "The Invaders" with "Star Trek" is like comparing Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull , both are great and classic for thier own reasons . ( Sabbath are intensely brooding , like T.I. , and Tull are unpredictably campy and tongue in cheek at times , like S.T.
Mark, I knew I'd spoken with you before! You are the man with the IRONSIDE website. Don't you remember me getting you to identify an episode for me? I made mention of Tiny Tim, acetelyne torches, etc? Sorry about all this unrelated-to-INVADERS stuff, everybody, but you're witnessing one of the greatest coincidences in history. The odds of two strangers 'meeting' again in cyberspace are about as likely as being shot with a bullet that literally has your name on it!
Hello again , fellow saucerheads . This is the cat who walks alone , under a big sky (Jethro Tull : "Astronomy" on the "Under Wraps " CD ) , asking again if anyone had ever heard the rumor about the U.S. Air Force trying to get "The Invaders" off the T.V. in the late 1960's
Hello, Astro. Personally, no, I've never heard of such a report. In fact I would have imagined the paranoid thinking of those cold war days would have had the authorities encouraging citizens to watch the skies, for the inevitable sight of Soviet paratroops! One thing I did read was that THE INVADERS was inspired by the Red under the bed worry of those days. These days, though, even an extra-terrestial invasion seems more likely than a Russian one!
This morning before dawn here in Denver , U.S.A, the Leonid Meteor Shower will give a display not to be repeated until 2029 ! Since it will be at the end of a long night of the stars moving and changing colors as I walk alone with the nocturnal cats , I will be sure to be threading toward the dawn and will see it . And yes , I will be keeping an eye out for "Them" , what better screening for lots of "Invader" saucers than a meteor shower ? Let me see your pinkie finger............
Hi,Anyone looking for any or all of the 43 episodes,I have them all,uncut,unedited full length,no commercials.Thank you,Kerry
Does anybody know where you can get hold of The Invaders episodes on VHS or DVD.
Hello again from the other side , fellow Saucerheads ! I was browsing VHS movies on line , and saw a movie titled " The Invaders " starring Scott Bakula , released in 1995 . Is this flick about "Them " , and if it is is it good or should it be given the " heart attack disc " ? Or is it totally unrelated to the T.V. series ?
To:Astronomy under wraps. The "mini-series" as they called it was not that bad for a science fiction movie, but calling it The Invaders is like calling n'sync a band.It bore little familiarity with the show.Save your money rent it in the 1.00 rentals at your local mom and pop video store.Be ready to laugh.Goddnight John-boy,....Goodnight Mr.Vincent
The visitors to this site who did not know TI had a connection have obviously never seen #11 "The Ivy Curtain" in which Vincent discovers that a one man airplane hire firm is being used to fly "foreign students" to a mid-western academy. The students are dressed identically,do not speak to the pilot or each other, and have no luggage! When Vincent visits the school he sees Aliens in one room being taught by a computer; in another room Aliens dressed as hippies are being taught how to argue and spread unrest! At the time the show was aired, student protests were in the news so the implication was that rebellious students and communists were space aliens! P.S whoever decided the number of stars in the episode guide, check this episode again and i think you"ll agree it deserves 5, as does Beach head if only for the beautiful Diane Baker!
Yes...! I love "Beach Head" as well , and if you really like Diane Baker , check out " Journey to the Center of the Earth " with Pat Boone (oy!) and James Mason , with Baker playing Boone's fiancee , Jenny . ( Although I just finished watching "The Mummy Returns " , and the sight of Patricia Valasquez dressed in black , in black gloves and caressing a snake is enough to send my tongue through the floor every time )!
I think you guys should get a room,or at least get to the right chat page.....Here's one; There are many actors who appeared more than once in the series but usually as a different character. Can anyone(besides Chance and Kerry), name one that was in at least three episodes but still played the same character at least twice.Anyone in four episodes? Thanks,Jeff
Obviously , this is not the right chat room to have a sense of humor or be a human being . BYE...and erase my other messages please !
Thanks for the advice Jeff, but i already have several rooms and a life! If men are ever banned from appreciating beautiful women we might just as well surrender to the invaders. For me, if the alien Diane Baker came on to me i would surrender without a fight!
Hello people, the internet can really be a joy, prior to the http://www network hoe the hell could I have found a bunch of fans of The Intruders, I´ve been asking for about 10 years and to this date have not found anyone who even remembers it let alone is a fan. I caught the reruns on Channel 4 on Sunday afternoons in the 80s. Does anyone in the UK have copies for sale, I cant even find any on ebay. Mail me if you do. Taz@etoast.com

Here's one; There are many actors who appeared more than once in the series but usually as a different character. Can anyone(besides Chance and Kerry), name one that was in at least three episodes but still played the same character at least twice.Anyone in four episodes?
--End of original post --
Obviously, Kent Smith played Edgar (Alex) Scoville & Stan Arthur, 12 episodes; I can't find anyone in 4 episodes; Lyn McCarthy played Fellows & Archie Harmon, 3 episodes; John Milford, 3 episodes; Alfred Ryder, 3 episodes; Anthony Eisley, 3 episodes; Diana Hyland, 2-parter + 1 episodes; Michael Rennie, 2-parter + 1 episodes; William Windom, 2-parter + 1 episodes; many more were in 2 episodes, either as the same or a different character, as some of the characters weren't named (i.e. Alien #1, Guard #2, etc.) but this should get you started (grin)!
Actually, there wasn't a single episode in the entire series that DIDN'T feature an actor who wasn't on another episode at one time or another.Check it out with any INVADERS episode guide. It seems Quinn Martin used his favourite actors like Irwin Allen used stock footage. This is also evident in THE FUGITIVE.
Hi,You guys are much better than me,I'd have to look that stuff up(not saying you didn't,I think Chance is probably the only one that probably doesn't have to research).Actually one does come to mind that no one has mentioned and perhaps someone even knows the actors name as I don't.There is a guy who I know has been in four episodes, but his parts are usually a small supporting role or less.In "dark outpost" he was the alien(dressed as a military officer standing beside whit bissel)who thru the little hypnotic device on the ceiling was made to look like the comrade(Dr.Devin) that vincent claims the aliens killed. He was also the service station attendant(non-alien)that is killed by the one alien that escapes when vincent takes over in "The Saucer".I think he was also in "task force" as an member of the alien's that infiltrate the magazine company.he's in one other but I can't remember(see??? research)Does anyone know the name of the actor or the other episode? Kerry
Hello everyone what a great page I did not realise there was such a large following of invaders enthusiats out there! I have quite a lot of episodes still on tape from the sci fi channel and bbc 2 when aired in 1992 on sunday lunchtimes. I wonder why there is not the whole series released on video i'm sure it would sell. I read previous fav scenes and episodes. One of my fav scenes is in the trial when the mudered suposed elderly parents leave the court rm and in front of david vincent pop a couple of pills and vanish, not in time for anyone else but vincent to see, classic invaders showing how in each episode vincent would always be up against it.
Yes,the scene in "The Trial"with the alien parents is one of classic sci-fi scenes ever! Another great scene is in "The Enemy" where the alien Blake is reverting to his native form and in agony. He begs Vincent in a quietly insane voice to "do something, anything to stop the pain". Vincent shoots him and he burns up from his mutating hands towards his head! Was there ever better sci-fi than this?
I JUST WANTED TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THANK EVERYONE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO HAVE ORDERED INVADERS VIDEOS FROM ME. HAVE A GREAT AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON AND AVOID THE DEATH DISCS OUT THERE! =)
SORRY TO DO A TACKY COMMERCIAL, BUT I DO HAVE SOME EPISODES WITH THE ORIGINAL 1960'S COMMERCIALS TRANSFERED FROM MY ABC NETWORK 16MM FILMS DIRECTLY TO VHS! IF ANYONE NEEDS ALL 43 EPISODES ON VIDEO, I AM ON VACATION A LOT DURING THE HOLIDAYS AND EXTREMELY FAST SERVICE IS ASSURED!
Another great scene is from THE PIT, with the saucer floating over the buildings while shimmering as if in a heat haze. It reminded me of the description a friend gave to me of a UFO he claims he saw. Being the naturally concerned friend that I am, I gave him the description of a clinic that he should see! Yes, the scene in THE TRIAL of the aliens' 'parents' is quite unique. It's almost like an encounter with the supernatural. Much as I hate adverts, if it wasn't for Chance, as per the previous entry, I wouldn't be able to discuss our beloved show.
Terry, those suicide pills are pretty creepy! The "parents" used them, the alien "Carlos" in the church at the conclusion of the violent episode "Storm", Brother Avery in "The Prophet" and others!
Another that comes to mind is the character in THE MIRACLE who takes a suicide pill and grabs hold of Vincent in an attempt to incinerate him also!
Good point! That is another good example of The Invaders death pills being used. By the way, I just heard about George Harrison's passing away and I am very upset about it.
Another memorable use of the suicide pills was seen in "The Peacemaker" where the Army capture an alien (dressed in green overalls) tie his hands behind his back, and throw him in a prison cell. Just when you think "this is it" another alien in officers uniform throws a pill through the spyhole and the prisoner licks it off the floor and burns up! By the way , instead of the alien in "The Miracle" committing suicide why did"nt they just move him to another town?
This is fantastic! I thought the show had burned up just like the dead aliens.
The show creeped me out during the 60s. I've always been a conspiracy theorist at heart, which is probably why I gravitated to shows and movies such as TI, The X-Files and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
My all-time favorite scene comes from "The Pursued," when Vincent and Scoville are transporting Suzanne Pleshette to the hearings. They drive past a kid walking a bike up a hill -- who turns out to be an alien and reports their progress to the alien hit team! You just didn't know who you could trust!
I remember that one, that kid was Barry Williams,Greg Brady on the "BRADY BUNCH"
Always knew there was something about those Bradys to watch out for . . .
I have just found my cache of Invaders magazine articles as below- "Starlog" September 1978 [history, photos, episodes, chat with Larry Cohen]--"Starburst #79" 1985 [episodes seies 2]--"Space Voyager"June 1985 [critique+photos] and starlog "Spaceships" which has the stock photo of the saucer landing. Does anyone know of any other mag articles? Question-from time to time original movie props [esp.James Bond] turn up at auction, but did any of the Invaders props survive, possibly in the Planet Hollywood restaurants?
There was a fan who posted on the site that I also ran across on ebay.He said he was the nephew(I think that was it,but you can scroll thru the old chats and get his info) of Murray Hamilton. He was the actor who played on an Invaders episode but is best known as the Mayor in the "Jaws" movies.Anyway this guy was selling Invaders things, behind the scene things,If Interested you can probably reach him.
Mistyped email address on previous entry.
If you know how to use newsgroups check out alt.binaries.multimedia.scifi A guy there has all the episodes and intends posting the first episode tonight (vcd format) ... more will follow if sufficent interest!
Thanks for this info. Larry Cohen said in Starlog interview that original concept for aliens was they would have "an eye in the palm of their hand !!!"but this freaked ABC out, so they went with the "pinky" and the regeneration tubes, also that he wrote 22 plot outlines for QM who rejected them and then filmed every one! P.S. Who is the person calling himself "Captain Toxic" who appears to be marketing a ready-made Saucer kit ? His website address is http//yogvolo.free.fr/invaders/ It was about the 14th page when i searched for TI on Bush Internet.
Hey Alan!
If you think that tiny 1978 Starlog article on THE INVADERS was informative, check out the 2 part story on THE INVADERS in Starlog issues 206 and 207 from 1994. Another good article was in the August, 1998 issue of SCI-FI FLIX Magazine with those idiots Muldaur and Skully on the cover from "The 86ed Files." I will go through my col;lection and post more, but I highly recommend STARLOG ISSUES 206 and 207!!!
Dear Invader-Philes, I am a new visitor to your website and am quite enjoying it. I too have pleasant memories of watching "The Invaders" from its original run on ABC, local syndicated reruns in the 1970's and 1980's, and finally, on the SciFi Channel in the 1990's. However, it has been a long while since I've seen an episode. To the point, I have a piece of information/question that may be of interest to you or it may be old news. Being new to your website, I don't know but here goes: Early this year (Feb./March?), a couple of DVD websites I surf (one of them was http://www.digitalbits.com) mentioned "Invaders" DVD's in the works by Paramount for summer release this year. I remember seeing this announcement/rumor posted several times and becoming very excited about this news. However, summer has come and gone and I have heard NOTHING about "Invaders" DVDs since. I was unaware that Paramount had the video release rights. I know Quinn-Martin Productions is now defunct but the current video releases (in the USA) are produced by some "no-name" manufacturer and are of terrible quality. Does anyone know news about the possibility of "Invaders" DVDs? I am very interest in any intelligent or informed input. All the best to everyone, Lance Kern
Hi,Anyone Interested In The series on DVD Format please contact me.Thanks!
I noticed In the Old chat pages that someone mentioned something called "NOMADS" as a reworking of The Invaders on NBC during the 1970's.Does anyone know about this? It seems a little familiar but more like a different show that Roy Thinnes Just happened to play on.Anyone know about this one? Thanks and I really enjoy the site!!!!!Jeff
Cosmic Films and PrimaLynn Entertainment will now co-produce "The Cogency," co-starring Roy Thinnes (The Invaders). Shooting will begin in June of 2002 on the heels of "Behind the Badge," a police thriller also featuring Thinnes. Details to follow as they become available.
http://members.aol.com/Cogency1
The DVD release is a rumor I am afraid. Many were taken in by this story =(
Getting back to the subject if Invaders articles, Larry Cohen's original concept of the aliens having an eye in the palm of their hands sounds VERY creepy! This seems like something I'd see on "Night Gallery" or something. I suppose if the eye thing had been executed, then Vincent would be one high-fiving mother fu*ker!
I agree with you on the "eye" Chance,in fact i think a generation of kids would have grown up seriously disturbed! I always thought the scariest piece of alien equipment was the regeneration tubes which had the appearance of blackened skeleton ribs and the hideous whirring noise they made as they came out of the ceiling. Has anyone noticed that they were "borrowed" from the movie "This Island Earth"? In the film the human passengers had to be protected against the rigours of hyperlight space travel by standing in transparent tubes tho i cannot remember whether they were filled with liquid or light!
I guess seeing the show as a kid (as in my and a few others' cases) did tend to freak you out. For me it was those deadly discs. There was something vampiric about their usage. Is it my imagination, or did they change their appearance as the show continued?
Terry, I think the "death discs" did change appearance in terms of color as they series progressed. For instance, the "prong" like pieces inside the circumference of the disc(the pieces that have to touch the neck of a human to do it's thing) seemed to be colored red and blue and later they were just a solid yellowish-white. Perhaps they colored them at first when color TV was still a novelty
I think you're right, Chance. Mark from England earlier on mentioned he'd noticed the show seemed to be drawing in on it's budget, so it could have even been that. Certainly they looked a lot deadlier with the prongs and lights. I wonder what happened to them as props after the shows' demise and how many were made all told. I'd love to get my hands on one as a cherished memento. In fact, there are times when a real one would be handy! They were yet another feature missing from the sorely disappointing Spelling production.
I guess I should have said "pegs" instead of "prongs" in my last post about the death discs
Hey Terry,
I bet O.J. Simpson wished he had one of those discs! No evidence. LOL
O.J. Simpsons' case is as unresolved as The Invaders series itself, if you ask me, Chance. I've just got to share this with my fellow Invaders fans; I've just checked out a local auction here in New Zealand and, to my utter amazement, there are a couple of Invaders comics from the sixties up for grabs! This is classic memorabilia and I have taken the lead in the bidding, of course! They feature photo covers probably from the series. I remember a friend bought one way back when they came out and I was suprised to see the aliens glowed red when they burned up. We, as a nation, didn't have colour TV until the mid-seventies, so for some reason I always assumed they glowed ghostly white! Let other bidders beware; they don't stand a chance!
TRIVIA TIME!
What actor(s) from TV's THE WALTONS appeared on THE INVADERS?
Answers to the trivia: Ellen Corby aka Gran in BEACHHEAD, Will Geer aka Grandpa in THE PURSUED and Richard Thomas aka John-Boy in the Aaron Spelling production. Now you must congratulate me as I am the successful bidder on the comics I mentioned. It must have been divine intervention that made me turn to an auction website at about midnight just before closing down and going to bed. Because there were these two INVADERS comics bidded to their reserve price with only 2 and a half hours to go. A sure purchase for the poor bidder ... until I swept in from left field! There were only four of these comics ever published so to find them in this country over thirty years later just before they vanished forever was the biggest stroke of luck I've had since I found Chance offering episodes on this site. I'll give a report on the comics when I get them.
Well done Terry! As i said in an earlier message i have a complete set of Invaders comics and paperbacks,as follows- Gold Key Comics-#1 "The Invaders"[the vanishing mountain], #2 TI[the orbit of doom], #3 TI[the moon tilters], #4 TI[the doomsday window]. All of these have stills from the tv show,#1 shows the early large form of raygun! Paperbacks-Pyramid #1 "The invaders",#"TI Army of the Undead", Corgi publ.-"TI The Halo Highway", "TI The Night of the Trilobites", "TI The Meteor Men" and finally a hardback book "TI Dam of Death". The paperback stories have little to do with the show except that all have colour stills on the covers; the hardback is not listed in Starlog and IS faithful, very similar to "Valley Of The Shadow" and with drawings of alien regen tubes etc. these are available for sale as a set [offers to my e-mail] or would consider exchange for VHS videos [not the commercial ones which i have]. Random thought-was the young Stephen Spielberg influenced by The Invaders? I was watching CE3K today and the scene in the radar room reminded me of the NORAD scene in "Condition Red"!!
Here in southern California we have a Desert Racing motor cycle Club called "The Invaders". They race cross country across the California open Desert in an event called a "Hare and Hound" and is usually a distance of 80 to 100 miles long. They use the same "The Invader" black logal on their jerserys with a floresent hot pink back ground. They have been around for about thirty years.
CONGRATS, Terry on winning the Invaders Comic Books!
I have all the comic books and you will be pleased to see that the first couple of issues have photos INSIDE of the comics!
Hey Al, that's cool about the cycle club! THE INVADERS live on!
The invaders episode one - Beach Head - coming down now on the newgroups alt.binaries.multimedia and alt.binaries.multimedia.scifi VCD format, 42 other episodes will follow. Time to get downloading!
I watched the episode "THE EXPERIMENT" tonight with the original ABC TV commercials while I was dubbing it for someone and I noticed that the "death disc" had MANY colors and was ILLUMINATED. Terry, this must be why it looked different to you. The scene that I refer to was when Harold Gould's character was murdered in his car. The lighting is dim and you can see the disc glow Red, blue, yellow, green and orange. It's WILD! I also noticed Vincent swing a baseball bat-like object at an INVADER'S HEAD! I noticed this before, but I always forget to mention it. I love the violence! There was a LOT of action on this show(and GREAT ACTING) and that "V" 1980's miniseries was dog crap in comparisson IMO
Chance, you hit the nail on the head. That disc used in THE EXPERIMENT was exactly the one I had in mind. Incidently it's interesting to note it's the only time we see one until GENESIS,in which David descibes the disc and what it even feels like to receive the business end of it! Obviously we have to accept that things happen in the continuity side of the show that are between episodes. In fact, David never even sees the disc in THE EXPERIMENT. Examples of the continuity thing ; in THE IVY CURTAIN we see David, in New Mexico, trailing an alien he first saw at an installation in Florida. The installation is perhaps the one featured in VIKOR. However David Sheiners' alien character didn't appear in VIKOR or any other episodes. Also, at the start of LABYRINTH, David has an alien captive, but we don't get to see him locate, stalk, and nab his prey. Getting back to THE EXPERIMENT, it is a favourite of mine. Dabbs Greer must take the cake for the most sinister alien leader in the entire series in my opinion. Also, note that some aliens appear to get killed but none incinerate. Some episode guides I've read list it as episode 2 and THE MUTATION as 3, so maybe the concept came about after the shows' wheels were set in motion, that they couldn't leave alien bodies lying around the place. Finally, I half agree about V. I thoght the pilot mini-series was great, but I thought the terrible regular series that followed ruined and even conflicted with all the good work.
Yes Jeff....Alfred Ryder played an alien leader three times in the series and was the same character for each time. Michael Rennie also played it three times...one in an earlier episode and again in the two parter Summit Meeting.
Terry,
I think that much of the continuity issues are due to the fact that the Invaders episodes aired out of production order, much like Star Trek and The Fugitive. As you know, when a show completes post production, it airs. Some episodes required much post production(particularly the ones with many glowing alien deaths). I noticed that Vincent is in Florida in "Storm", "Vikor(I think)" and "Moonshot." In a perfect world it would have made more sense continuity wise to air these three episodes together since Florida is a massive state and it would take much time for our hero to travel about in it. I mean if you go by the episode aired order, Vincent was in Florida for the "Storm", but in West Virginia in the next week's story "Panic" and then back to Florida for "Moonshot." Of course in reality(BORING) the viewer would get tired of seeing Vincent in the same state and location so much. Nevermind that he is reallyon a set or stage in California no matter where the episode is supposed to take place. In "The Experiment", you DO see a GLIMPSe of an alien burning up! Watch the one that Lindstrom J.R. attacks with the chair in the control room in "Maryland." Pay attention and you'll see him start to glow red!
Continuing with my story, Terry, The alien starts to glow red and then the director Joe Sargent cuts away! It's VERY subtle! I think they were teasing us as they did with the regeneration tubes in the pilot. Later we learn what those tubes do. I REALLY wish I had an episode guide of The Invaders IN PRODUCTION ORDER. This may explain why Vincent described the effects of the death disc that he never saw on screen in "Genesis." Maybe "The Innocent"(or "Vikor" for that matter) was filmed before "Genesis" and they producers saved it for "ratings sweeps week" since it was an exceptional entry and Michael Rennie was in it who was a big star at the time. I really like how things unfolded on The Invaders.
I too agree that the "V" Original mini-series was classic! Once they fired Kenneth Johnson(creator/director of "The Bionic Woman", "The Incredible Hulk" TV show) it went to CRAP. That second mini-series blew. That alien baby was so stupid IMO. I have the first miniseries on Warner Brothers DVD and there is a cool behind the scenes documentary from 1982 on it! "V" star Marc Singer is a good actor and he was great in "The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan", "If You Could See What I Hear" and "The Beastmaster", but he is no Roy Thinnes! That Faye Grant chick was HOT
Chance, you're right. I just watched THE EXPERIMENT yet again( any excuse to review this classic), and that alien does begin to glow - just him, not his clothes. In fact he lights up the walls beside him. Regarding V, a thing that bugged me was that the very talented Jane (God, I can't remember her name - it began with a B) played such a thoroughly detestable character - the main villainess, Diana (?). I thought she would have been fantastic as a resistance fighter. And where is she these days? Anyway those are just personal opinions. The sad fact is that the regular series of V resembled a seventies production. Finally, can you enlighten a foreigner on a couple of Americanisms that crop up on this site. What do IMO and LOL mean?
IMO stands for "In My Opionion" and LOL is short for "Laughing Out Loud" Terry. I am a lazy typist! Yes,, "THE EXPERIMENT" is one of the best! Dabbs Greer was indeed a menacing Invader! The music in this episode by Dominic Frontiere was specially excellent! We hear the dread "DAAAAAAAAAA, NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Invaders musical theme for the first time in it's elongated form and in the end credits! I love this music when Vincent looks over the proof in Lindstrom's New York City apartment!! The end credits to the next aired episode "The Mutation" was differnt and sentimental.
The actress you refer to from "V" is named Jane Badler(fitting name!) who played Diana. She retired from acting and moved to Australia and married a rich man. She was delicious in the first miniseries! You are so right about the regular "V" series being so bad it's worthy of a good vomit
Since discussions about shows that were "tibutes" to THE INVADERS and similar in nature such as "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" , "V" and "The X-Files", I thought I would mention a rareseries from the 1960's that I recommend to all fans of THE INVADERS.
A series was produced in Japan from 1966-1969 called "MAGMA(TOSHI)." This show is like an old-time movie serial with 4 half-hour episodes forming one storyline. There was a cool cliffhanger ending for each installment except for the 4th and concluding episode of each 4 part story. 52 26 minute episodes were filmed. "MAGMA"("GOLDAR" in the English version) is a fifty-foot golden robot who is sent to Earth to defend it against a terrorist alien Invader named RODAK("GOA" in the Japanese version). RODAK conquers whole planets with his weapons across the Universe. He discovers our world and finds it to be the most beautiful planet in the Universe and "must be added to the collection," as Rodak had exclaimed. His spaceship is a pulsating bat-like craft. He send a giant lizard to Earth in the pilot and introduces himself to a famous report so that he can spread the news of his takeover. At this same time, Goldar arrives and makes it clear that he will fight Rodak and defend the Earth.
This show "MAGMA" was translated and syndicated across the globe in 1970. Here in America, one of the first national cable channels WTCG(now called WTBS the "SUPERSTATION" and owned by Time Warner/Ted Turner.) began running this cool show in 1977 Monday-Friday at 4PM EST on cable and locally in Atlanta. The Americanized version was titled "THE SPACE GIANTS" As a youth I would come home from school, throw my textbooks down and watch it. I am 29 now and I still find this show very dark, violent and great fun. It was so much better than "ULTRAMAN" and "GODZILLA" IMO and it had better special effects. Rodak's agents of death were cold like the alien INVADERS. I will post some links and photographs later
Here is RODAK:

The last thing I will say about this show is that the 52 episode run did have a final episode that resolved ALL the loose ends and was the ultimate conclusion to the series. I hope some one out there knows what I am talking about. The creepy aliens that Rodak drafts from the planet Lugo in the Nastrix Galaxy were the BEST! They are 4 dimensional aliens that could walk through walls and who have the unigue ability to take over anyone's indentity. They invade a person's body and emerge and exact duplicate. The victim immediately is rendered unconsious after this process occurs. When the Lugoman dupe os killed, the human original wakes up. The Lugomen themselves have no features whatsoever. They are solid black. When they die after GOLDAR zaps them with his Gamma Ray weapon from his antenae, they melt into a blue jelly-like substance and give off a terrible sound similar to vomiting and burping. This effect reminds me of how THE INVADERS burn up, in a sense. Many episodes were cut due to excessive violence and cotroversial scenes. Lugomen's heads and arms would be seen being cut off, possessed humans would go an a shooting and bombing spree(trimmed WAY down for American TV) and Rodak killed a preacher in a Church on CHRISTMAS EVE in an episode. This and much more was edited out when it aired here. In fact, not be morbid or insensitive, Rodak destroyed much of Manhatten with his spaceship in one episode which would surely be cut out today. This scene hits a little too close to home IMO.
In addition to the 50 foot armed defender robot "GOLDAR", his female(in robot terms I guess) partner "SILVAR" and "GAM" also aid in the war against RODAK and INVASION. Both are normal sized. All three can transform into fast and armed rockets and have the Gamma Ray Weapon that can destroy the LUGO MEN in their antanae.
"THE SPACE GIANTS" stopped running on WTBS in 1982 when they began the first run of another Japanese action series filmed in the 1970's called "SPECTREMAN." Many have called, emailed, faxed TBS(this is what they told me in a phone conversation) and requested that they air them again. They said they actully tried to locate the English versions that were distributed by the now-defunct Lakeside Television, but they are LOST. LUCKILY someone with one of the FIRST VCR'S taped the entire TBS/SUPERSTION ryn of 52 episodes back in 1981. Since these were cut down for American audiences, about 85% is translated into English.
"THE SPACE GIANTS", or should I say "MAGMA" was released onto
laserdisc in Japan, but in Japanese of course. What a fan has done is take the crystal clear image of the laserdisc and dub in the 1981 recored English track, thus forming the entire uncut episode! Since content was cut, including the original Japanese opening and ending credit sequence in favor of an American/Syndicated edited much shorter credit piece, about 2 minutes of each show is not in English. Usually it is a non-talking action scene.
It is so cool that FANS found this show again while TBS could not(in English anyway with the voices some of us grew up with and love). RODAK'S voice is UNCANNY and COOL in either Japanese or English! Talented voice work, there!
Lesson/sermon over
ANYONE know what I am talking about?
Man, I just noticed some of my grammarical and typographical errors in my posts. I think I threw one two many of those texbooks down! Seriously, I wish we could edit our posts like you can on other message boards.
Anyway, the only Space Giants merchandise I that could locate are comic books(one from 1979 in association with Lakeside TV, and the other a 1995 comic) a Goldar action figure. I have been trying to locate a Rodak figure since he was the coolest and most EVIL single aliens ever on TV. Ok, back to THE INVADERS!!!
Does anyone have an episode guide to THE INVADERS in production order of filming? I know they aired out of sequence just as The Fugitive did. I have an episode list of The Fugitive for both the air and filmed dates and the order differs greatly between the two.
This may sound corny and that I have an overative imagination, but since THE INVADERS had no final episode that tied up all of the loose ends in the plot(although much had developed in the war against the aliens since Vincent first saw the craft land at the Diner), I feel that since we have no aliens(that we know of, anyway!) in the present 2,000's that Vincent won the war. The 1994 miniseries with Scott Bakula doesn't count in my opinion.
Is anyone out there?
Here again, Chance. It seems you're not a fan of the recent mini-series either. Yes, from what I saw of it( that which I didn't fall asleep through), it seemed as if Vincent was saying 'I've fought these critters long enough. I'm retiring, you can carry on the struggle'. To have continued the original series, it may have been an idea to have more regular stars. Perhaps a friendly alien. Mr Spock on STAR TREK proved how popular this concept could be. A regular female star has certainly worked wonders in THE X FILES. I actually like that show, except for all the bloody mumbling! David whatever who plays Mulder should be sent back to theatre school and given voice projection lessons! But as I once said before, the only solution taken to heart to keeping THE INVADERS afloat seems to have been more gunfire and glowing corpses. There was one thing tentatively explored and that was the odd episode where the aliens failed to destroy evidence of their prescence. You may recall one where incinerating aliens are captured on film by the believers. I think they were on the right track here because criticism I've read of the show is that people found it depressing the way the good guys never quite won. And the fact that the show was on at the same time as the Viet Nam controversy, and a wave of mass murder cases, people being people wanted something shallow to tickle their funny bones. Personally I think those days were a lot better than these - especially this horrific year.
A couple of questions; 1] did the Aliens ever EAT? We often saw them drink [like the "parents" in "The Trial" but i only have a vague memory of one eating in "The Ivy Curtain". 2] Which was the first episode where we saw the small alien raygun? As i said in a previous message, one of the Gold Key comics has a photo of the early large raygun. 3] Which was the first episode where a human was incinerated by a raygun? I think it was "Vikor" where i seem to remember one of Vincents new friends climbing a ladder when an alien fired at him! As for other Sci-Fi TV i got about 20 minutes into The Invaders mini-series before realising it had nothing to do with the "real" show and went to the pub to drown my sorrows, and i"m afraid the same goes for "V" although at the time i was still young and more interested in human female bipeds than aliens! For me, the only TV show fit to be watched on the same TV as The Invaders is the New Outer Limits which i reckon is among the best sci-fi ever produced. If you disagree check out the episodes "A Stitch In Time" or "Feasibility Study" !!
hello,
chance, we are out here!!! it's just that posting on this site is a little more difficult than most sites. i'm just trying to take in the last 3 messages posted and they all we're great. to me, the proof is in the pudding. the only television shows that i remember vividly from childhood were 1) the invaders, 2) the outer limits, and 3) the twilight zone. what a childhood (haha)!!! "feasibility study" from the outer limits was mentioned and it has always been a favorite episode of mine.
i just hope people are able to keep interest in these shows alive. at least they have a plot and give people something to think about...even today.
richard
Hi,The Question about the aliens eating was a good one because there was on episode,I'm not 100% sure but I believe It was Alfred ryder as "the leader" who made the comment about they didn't have to eat.Now take a look at "The Believers" episode,Carol Lynley first comes to Vincent they are in the cafeteria, while i realize that any humans (like Lynley) that they may have captive of course needs food but why are there aliens in there eating? One is sitting right near they munching away...Why???
Alan, to answer your third question, I believe the first human death- by-disintegrator-gun is in WALL OF CRYSTAL. One blast disintrgrates a car, its, driver and an alien on the bonnet( or 'hood' as you Americans call it ) of the car. The scene you describe sounds like THE CONDEMNED, the following episode. Re the aliens eating, yes there is an all-too-earthly cafetaria scene in THE BELIEVERS with aliens enjoying our cullinary skills. In THE RANSOM Alfred Ryder confirms that aliens don't sleep! But as far as I know there is no reference to them not eating. Now I have a question; Is there any mention of where these aliens actually come from? I spoke to an old guy who remembered the show and he seemed to think they came from the Vega star system. I also read that in Germany the show was called something like DIE INVADERS VON WEGA ( THE INVADERS FROM VEGA? ). Thanks yet again to Chance, I've now seen the entire series but don't recall any reference to Vega. I now have my two comics (THE ORBIT OF DEATH and THE DOOMSDAY WINDOW), and am savouring them, resisting the urge to consume them in seconds. I'm not saving them for the proverbial rainy day, as here in New Zealand, it's the 18th day of Summer and in my town we've only had one day where it has not #%^@& rained!
Perhaps when Alfred Ryder [Nexus] made the comment about aliens "not eating" he meant that they did"nt normally eat, but could do so to pass themselves off as human! On another subject, when watching "Beach head" recently i have noticed that in the opening shots of the Saucer landing there is a kind of eerie blue shimmering effect on the right hand underside which is"nt visible in later episodes. I wonder if Beach head was used as a master tape and this effect was lost in the copying? On the Roy Thines website there is a reference to the aliens having to regenerate "every 48 hours" . When was this mentioned on the TV show?
Alan,
Good point about the blue haze under the saucer landing in "Beachead!" I have the extended version of the pilot and it contains a DIFFERENT TAKE of the saucer landing and a different version of the main title music. The saucer looks larger in the extended pilot due to the tighter angle shot that they used for this effect.
Al Ryder appeared as "The Leader" in several episodes starting with "Vikor", then "The Ransom" and "The Peacemaker." He never said that they do not eat. The odd thing is that Michael Rennie was described as the "leader" in the early and classic episode "The Innocent." I assume that he and Ryder's character were part of an executive cabinet of some kind.
Glad you received the comics, Terry! I love the photos inside and on the cover! =)
Chance, regarding your mention of the 90 minute version of "Beachead" it would be interesting to know what the extra content was! In the Gold Key comics there are photos of Vincent and Diane Baker beside the regen tubes-were these posed or taken from the pilot? Thinking a bit more about the aliens eating and sleeping, i recall that in "The Peacemaker" General Concannon ordered tests on the ashes of a recently burned alien and was told that it was "cellulose residue, like burned plants" We know that the aliens could be grown from spores so why not expand the theory and say that the aliens were a highly evolved form of plant life? This would neatly explain why they did not eat [since plants only need liquids] or sleep, and also why the inside of the saucer was so simple-no need for beds or food supplies!! Thats the beauty of the show, it leaves a lot to the imagination and you sketch in the details yourself! By the way, i"m ENGLISH, and proud to be part of the alliance that has kicked Johnny Talibans ass back to where it belonged.
Very interesting post, Alan! They appeared "slug-like" in "The Enemy" and similar to what I assume the lifeforms in "The Spores" would have looked like had they kept growing. Blake's raw form looked like the creatures in the greenhouse...no detail. Cheers to the victories in Afghanistan!
Hello fellow believers!! With regards to what the invaders might look like . In "the Prophet" when the Father ( I really cant remember his name!) is regenerating for a moment he takes the form of what looks like a scorpion type creature. I might be wrong but Ive never seen that in any other episodes. So that might be the true form of the invaders but who knows!!!
I've read one of my two comics (#4). What a great read. I don't know why only 4 were ever printed. I didn't realise there were two stories per book. Both stories could have made live episodes. Okay, comics don't have to worry about budget restraints like television does, but a metal hoop with a view of the stars in its' centre would have been a cinch to do. The saucer crew with helmets and insignia on their uniform was probably better left in the comics. All a great part of the immortal world of THE INVADERS. You people have good reason to be proud of what your countries are doing to make the world a better place. Our government has done away with our air force, forcing yet more intelligent New Zealanders overseas to find work! This is pathetic when you consider that in WW2 we had more air crewmen per head of capita than any nation in the world. No wonder our Prime Minister's received death threats over this issue
hey,
marek, check the regeneration sequences in "vikor" (thanx c). besides the "human skeleton" phases, the aliens take on many other shapes. just my 2 cents worth.
R
MERRY CHRISTMAS, FELIZ NAVIDAD AND HAPPY NEW YEAR INVADERS FANS!!! =)
No offense to the keepers of this fine site, but some of the ratings of the episodes is way off IMO. It is a crime to say that "The Mutation" is a one star episode and that "Task Force" is a four star show. Also, "The Experiment" is one of the best and all it received here was two stars. "Vikor" is very tense and exciting and is a personal favorite of mine as well. I disagree with many of the ratings. Just my two cents
To all devotees of the Chance Bartels website;
Will someone, once and for all, please tell me what is on the mythical 90-minute Invaders pilot that the regular pilot does not have (besides an alternative opening and closing credits, which any moron may deduce, after a bit of calculating, does not expand a 52-minute episode by an extra half hour).
I suggest there IS NO 90 minute pilot. I base this solely on frustration in reading devotee after devotee (including myself) ask Chance what exactly is on the 90-minute tape, only to have him elude the question.
Chance, you are true to your word in that you sell all episodes of the Invaders and deliver them in record time. You provide a legitimate and appreciated service. But there are many other people out there, none of whom have posted on this website and are not out to make a buck, who have far superior dubs of each episode and sell them for half your rate (for those curious, I suggest you SEARCH the website for answers).
Be honest: some of your dubs are unplayable. This is certainly not your fault - I'll be the first to admit a shitty dub of Invaders is better than no dub at all - but I think in all fairness, unless you have abandoned promoting and selling pirated tapes, you should lower your price substantially to a maximum of $4US per tape and $1 for the really shitty dubs in your collection (for those wondering about my keyword SEARCH, I get great dubs (TWO per tapefor a single fee for far less than my recommended price reduction).
I await a detailed answer about the scene-by-scene differences in the so-called 90-minute version of the Invaders pilot compared to the normal 52-minute version that the rest of the world knows and loves. I'll bet it is not forthcoming.
Anycase guys, go on e-mailing each other about the intricasies of The Invaders - as a long-time fan myself, you go a long way in making me understand there are tons of folk out there who have no life at all. This was only a series, guys, a good one, a fascinating one, but ultimately just another product that made people buy soap for two seasons. When you're done with your e-mailing, try moving out of your parents' basements, dating a girl, doing a bit of travel, riding a horse (proof, incidentally, there is a God), whatever. And remember: the best thing that ever happened to Roy Thinnis professionally was a brief series of Excedrin commercials he appeared in the the late 1970s.
Robin.your arguments are like Bin Ladens jockstrap-old, rancid and full of holes. Any interest or hobby is sad if you want it to be-people support football teams and discuss the results as if life depended on it, but to many its just a silly game! If you really think that you must accept that everyone on the net is a sad nerd so chuck your PC in a skip and do us all a favour. Merry Christmas Saucerheads!!!
Robin, are you insane? I have never heard of you. What they hell are you on about? I have never traded with you before. The rare extended version of "Beachead" that I have is 60 minutes long, NOT 51 minutes long. I never said it was 90 minutes you idiot! LOL!~
Since someone brought up the rare Extended Version of The Invaders "Beachead", I thought I'd mention that my version that I have provided for other fans is 60 minutes long as opposed to the 51 minute aired version. I NEVER EVER said that I had a 90 minute version and I challenge anyone to post a link to where I made this claim. I am an honest man and Robin is confused. The 60 minute extended version that I offer is very diferent than the aired version...this is all I will say at this time ESPECIALLY since I do not appreciate your attack, Robin. I do not live in my parent's house FYI. I do not even know you! Who said this is my site? I post here often(since 1997) and I have been happy to see new fans writing here lately, giving this place more life.
I am off to do some Christmas shopping soon and I may post a description of all the extra scenes(and the opening and closing credits are indeed different in many ways and they are the same length as the reuglar titles....the other 8 minutes are expanded and extra scenes). I have deliberately not commented on what they are so I don't ruin the surprise, or SPOIL it, as they say. It is well worth the $12.00. I never raised the price. IMO it is worth 19.99 due to rarity and coolness! The prices of the episodes with the 1960's commercials from their original airdate from ABC TV Network 16mm film prints are priced fairly as are the rest of the 43 episodes that I ship. Robin, I don't know why you are so wound up during Christmastime, but relax buddy!
MERRY CHRISTMAS INVADERS FANS!!!
I just received a 16mm film print of a 1965 movie titled "BILLIE" starring Patty Duke and Jim Bakus and guess who scored the music and songs....DOMINIC FRONTIERE!! I also have a 1981 Chevy Chase comedy called "Modern Problems" on film which our man Dominic scored.
hello,I would like to know if the invaders's music themes are available on cd in order to command it. Can someone give me the references.
YES Erwan! The Invaders is on CD, but it is only the main title themes by Dominic Frontiere. On "TELEVISION'S GREATEST HITS: IN LIVING COLOR"(Volume 5)by TVT records it is on track #54 and is the opening Invaders title music from the pilot "Beachead." Also, Neil Norman's "Greatest Science Fiction Hits Volume 3" from 1983(re-released on CD in 1998)has a creepy and rousing rendition of the season 2 end credits of "The Invaders!" He used a cool wind background sound effect for this piece. Also, a French group called Remote Control sampled voices, sound effects and the main theme of The Invaders for their techno version of "The Invaders" main theme titled "Les Envahisseurs." I am in the process of transfering my homemade "Invaders" soundtrack from audiotape to CD and attempting to persuade Crescendo Records to release an "Invaders" soundtrack as they did with "The Outer Limits"(by "Invaders" maestro Dominic Frontiere), "Lost in Space", "Star Trek" etc. I have been successful with these campaigns before...just takes dilligence.
Here is a link to Crescndo Records' website:

Click "Soundtracks" and "Neil Norman"
The site for TVT Records(who released "The Invaders: Beachead" main title theme on Volume 5 of "Television's Greatest Hits") is http://www.tvtrecords.com
Robin people who have a 'life' as you call it don't feel it necessary to bring down others in order to make them feel better about themselves. No the people who do that are generally bitter and hide behind sarcasm purely as a means of protection. You fool no one and all you show is your weakness.
What a sad life it would be if we had to conform to your idea of a 'life' my friend.
Hello, Robin. If we took your advice and all got ourselves lives, this chat page wouldn't exist, would it? Incidentally, where are you now - we're eagerly awaiting a reply from you.
Does everybody knows if there are all Invaders moovies on DVD in french??? Thanks
My final words to you, Robin; 'confused' describes your message (and probably you ) perfectly. What gives you the idea we don't do all those lively things you list as well as discussing our beloved show? Hell, some of us may even ride horses! What's the point in doing anything in the art line if we're supposed to screw it up and throw it away forever? Do you think we should throw out the Mona Lisa and put something more topical in its' place? Or put a more lucrative MacDonalds' in place of the lifeless Statue of Liberty? Many classic films and TV shows from very early days were destroyed by short-sighted ignoramuses and are now lost to us for ever. I know America is the ultimate consumer society, but your 'advice' is ridiculous. Your negativity is downright depressing. If we were indulged in a destructive, evil, negative following, then your comments would be valid. Don't get me wrong; if you're sincere in what you say, I welcome your opposing views as I hope you do mine. I suggest you take a look at your cynical comments in a considerable time from now and ask yourself honestly if you still would write the same letter.I used to be very cynical and then I found out how other people view cynics and it stopped me cold.
Do any other Invaders fans remember a late 1960s TV show called Journey Into The Unknown? The stories were a bit iffy but the opening sequence and music was the most genuinely alarming i have ever seen on TV---an unseen man who is whistling walking into a fairground and boards a rollercoaster ride. At the risk of enticing Robin away from his Merry Men in the Forest heres an extract from Starlog #16 1978---"Beachhead" This pilot film originally ran for 90 minutes and the complete version was screened during the Museum Of Modern Arts Science Fiction Retrospective in 1969.[As far as anyone knows, this was the only time the unedited print was publicly screened.] "Beachhead" was also remade in 1977 as "The Nomads",an episode of Quinn Martins Tales Of The Unexpected on NBC-TV.
HAPPY 2002 INVADERS FANS!!!
Just a quick comment...aren't local and cable television program directors clueless? With the way the world is now with hidden terrorists and not knowing who is a part of the conspiriacy, THE INVADERS would be PERFECT for a syndicated TV run! The timing is right!! I feel the ratings would be strong and a whole new genration of fans could emerge to enjoy this quality show! What gives???? Thank God for home video!
I too have that Starlog. It COULD have been a misprint or error. It is possible that they meant 60 minutes(as opposed to 51). This is a guess. Starlog once reported that a 90 Minute Star Trek pilot existed for "The Cage" and was screened by Gene Roddenberry at the first Star Trek convention. This was not true.
In THE INVADERS pilot, I cannot see how anything else could have been added based on the story. The still picture with Diane Baker and Roy looking at the tubes can't possibly fit...UNLESS he showed her the tubes after the extended scene at the Diner(where Baker's character works for "Mr. Kemper") and before he flees from a glowing Baker to rescue his partner and friend Alan. I always thought this was merely a publicity still of them looking at the tubes. The extended 60 minute version that I have distrubuted on VHS contains much extra dialogue and has a longer fight sequence and longer scenes(like when Vincent describes the saucer landing to the cops in the field)as well as other extras and alternate titles. I cannot see how another 30 minutes could exist and have the story make sense UNLESS we see the aliens flying their saucer to Earth as witnessed in the opening credits(for example)!!! This effects shot is never seen in the regular series!!!!
Welcome back to the Invaders Chat Page.
We have been implementing some changes around here, including a move from our old server location to an all new domain name "www.theinvaders.co.uk". Updating the site on the old server was very difficult, and the site has pretty much not been touched since around 1997. However, the new server makes this easy, so I would welcome any suggestions people have for changes.
Regarding the re-launched chat page, please read the list of guidelines found under "Posting Guidelines" above..
Enjoy.
Here's one for a discussion : To what extent was "The X Files" and the character of Fox Mulder inspired by "The Invaders" and the character of David Vincent ?
Hi,I'm glad to see the board back.In reference to your question about x-files/invaders.I think Moulder is like Vincent in that he knows what he knows is the truth as he has seen it yet most, even those closest to him don't share his belief. Some do catch on just as the Invaders had thier "believers" group.
Cool to see the site's being sorted out. Does anyone know if I can get The Invaders on DVD? I just want the whole of the how many series. I haven't seen it for years.
Thanks,
SdbM
And how about putting the 'Episode Guide' into one big, zipped digest sort of thing. It's a pain going to each one and I wouldn't mind printing it out just for my own personal use that is.
SdbM
I'll see what I can do.
By the way, you probably noticed that I started filling in episode descriptions, but only got as far as the first 10 or so. If anyone else wants to write some, that'd be great, and I can promise you full credit on the site homepage.
Quality vs Quantity
Heh, I just noticed the box of MM&V says "Quality Unknown" instead of "Quantity Unknown". I guess that's MM&V expressing their preferences. :) Am I knitpicky or what?
Hi Richard,
It's not my intention to break any rules here, but as where all Invaders fans, l thought l would risk it.
I wanted to let you all know you can get a couple of Invaders wallpaper images and a screensaver at my site. Plus there's a petition to try and get it back on TV that can be signed. When l have enough names l'll send them off to the channels around the World that might consider airing it again.
Main Site - http://www.tvcollective.com
Invaders - http://web.ukonline.co.uk/craig.pierce2/roy.html
Thanks
Craig.
Wow - you have some interesting stuff there ! I really liked "Bewitched" when I was a kid. Haven't seen it in 25 years or so !
The Invaders page is blank in Netscape - missing closing TABLE tag I think - easy to fix.
OK, I'm checking your site using Internet Explorer in "EasyEverything".
Boy oh boy, you have a lot of content there! Maybe we should consider joining forces? Drop me an email if you're interested.
Hey all! Just surfed in. Love the show -- is there an e-mail list as well as the board? Thanks!
Mark
I don't run an email list at this time. But you may find the archives from this page interesting - they go back nearly 5 years! To read them, just click on "Archived Chat Messages" at the top of this page.
Hello, I am an Invaders fan from Los Angeles, California, USA. I am looking for all of the Invader episodes on VHS tape or DVD. This web site only sells videos in the UK...how can I purchase these????...can anyone help me with a purchase of these tapes. Does anyone know other places to purchase Invader Episodes? Many thanks for any help!!!
Craig - I found the following listed on Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6304173334/reospeedwtheo-20
The questions about tapes available in other countries comes up quite a bit. I plan to start a better "tape availability" page sometime soon, if anyone wishes to have information included, please send to me by email.
Thanks, The episode selling at Amazon.com is the pilot "Beachhead". I trying to find the current owner of the rights to the Invaders. In the 1980's, Quinn Martin sold his production Co. to Taft Broadcasting. Did Taft buy the rights or did ABC hold the rights from its prime time run on network tv? If we find the holder of the rights, we can start a lobby campaign for releasing all episodes.
Nice to see that those idiots have been removed from this site and it seems to be back to normal again! Regarding the TV rights, it might be possible to find this out from the BBC who showed it in the UK in late 1984-86 and in 1990. I remember reading in 85 that it pulled in an audience of 3 million which is very high for BBC2! The Invaders has its own spot on the Internet Movie Database [IMDb] where you can also register your appreciation and recommend it to other readers [ SEARCH for IMDb ].
How do you do.
It is the writing from Japan.
"The Invadors" was seen by re-broadcast in Japan in 1989, and became a fan.
It is glad if put on the market with DVD.
How can I get the VHS tape or DVD discs of the vintage "Invaders" T.V. series? What would
be the cost for the whole collection (official or personal tapes)? It's a shame this offer
has not been made in the U.S. I thank Craig Pierce for his efforts in petitioning for the
show to be aired again on the Sci-Fi Channel. Please! Everyone spread the word about this
to ALL your friends, allies, and invaders alike.
Have a goodun - Chris
I have updated the episodes section by putting them into a database. I may add the facility for users to enter their own reviews about each episode - would anyone here use such a facility ?
